To develop resources that remove barriers and create opportunities for student achievement.
To ensure that every child at Avondale Elementary School has the resources to thrive.
Avondale Elementary School (AES) sits in the heart of Avondale Estates, Georgia, and attracts students from a large, diverse attendance zone that extends beyond the city and includes many businesses, community organizations, and places of worship, as well as residential neighborhoods and apartment communities. Under the leadership of Dr. Dontae Andrews, AES provides students with a global education through the International Baccalaureate Programme. AES emphasizes hands-on science and math learning and is currently completing requirements for STEM certification.
However, meeting the needs of all our students is especially challenging because most of our students live in poverty. In the DeKalb County School District, 70% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch – while at AES, it is 95%. The majority of our families are struggling financially and cannot afford extras like field trips and after school activities. Many of our families do not have access to technology, which is a fundamental part of learning in the 21st century.
The Avondale Elementary School Education Foundation (AESEF) believes everyone in our school community can be a part of the growth and educational development of our bright and curious students who proudly attend Avondale Elementary School. We can all invest in our students’ success.
